Key Issues

Ensuring our childrens' success.

The new Aspen Peaks School District is an opportunity to strengthen our community. There are four key issues that I am focusing on during this transition: our growing population, safety and school climate, excellence in education, and fiscal responsibility. These are elaborated below.

Growing Population

In the Aspen Peaks School District, our area is set to see a lot of growth. This presents opportunities and challenges.

I strongly believe in helping our local schools be the top choice for those who live in our communities. This means that we need to balance the needs of our growing local communities and the needs of the ASPD.

As your school board member, I will be a staunch advocate for our needs, focusing on working with Lehi City to get the schools where they are needed and providing the resources they need to thrive.

Further, I will work to stay ahead of the growth as much as possible to be forward-thinking about future needs.

Safety and School Climate

Our children are the most valuable resource. They are the future. We need to ensure that the schools they attend are safe, secure, and well taken care of.

Ensuring that our children are in secure buildings, with trained, knowledgeable, and safe adults is the basic expectation. We can do more than that, though. It is imperative that we also provide an environment where all students are able to feel a sense of belonging.

This happens by providing the appropriate support to qualified educators, paraprofessionals, faculty, and staff through competitive wages and benefits, reasonable working expectations, and fostering an atmosphere of excellence and support.

As a school board member, I would keep a focus on your children and those who work closest with them.

Excellence in Education

One of the key purposes of our public education system is to provide a holistic, enriching, and rigorous education for our children. Our public education system should not only prepare our children for the future, it should support learning in the home.

The public education system should not be expected to solve all of society’s issues. However, what it is meant to do, educate on academic and vocational understanding and skills, is what it should excel at.

To encourage the continued growth in excellence in education, we need to retain, obtain, and continually support excellent educators to implement effective teaching practices for learning in our modern world.

Graduation Hat Throw

I recognize that any money spent by the school district are public funds and should be used with discretion and care. A challenge for any school district is using those funds for the best uses in the areas that are needed.

This means a need for balancing the needs of many, though with the new district there is less variation of needs.

As your school board representative, I will advocate for our needs, but also remain fair in keeping the needs of all in mind.
